Your room name is hurting people.
According to a recent student op ed, a bro-dude calling a room in his house a âman caveâ is not just obnoxious but truly harmful to women and a âdisgusting patriarchal myth.â
âWhile I think itâs perfectly acceptable, and even healthy, to have separate spaces where one can enjoy time alone, the gendered language around âman caveâ is pretty gross,â Kalani Ruidas writes in a piece for Golden Gate Xpress, San Francisco State Universityâs official student newspaper.
Lest you think that what a dude decides to call a room in his own house isnât hurting anyone, Ruidas wants you to know that the idea of a âman caveâ amounts to a âpassive dig at femininityâ â yes, the very idea of femininity! â because itâs like saying that âwomen are such a burden that theyâre restricted from that zone.â
(Of course, some people might think that some rooms are called âman cavesâ just because theyâre filled with traditionally âman-likeâ things. However, intelligent people know that this could not be the case because gender roles obviously do not exist.)
âTheyâre the makings of a shrine to big business that has man-cavers nostalgic for a time when they were happy . . . guys should get over the feudalistic idea of a man cave allowing them to be the âlord of their manorâ in a room they can call their own,â Ruidas explains in her piece, which is titled âMan Caves Perpetuate Patriarchy.â
In addition to perpetuating patriarchy, Ruidas argues, âman cavesâ can also make racism worse . . . because âa man cave is a place where a man devolves into a grunting subhuman that leaves sexist and racist comments on message boards

Avert? Not before I raise a bemused eyebrow. ;-)
He was el mas macho.
Ah okay then what about the term CAVE MAN? is that to become TABOO as well??
I do not care for the term, “man cave”. When I was a lad, the man’s room in the house was his den. Women weren’t explicitly denied access, it didn’t have to labeled “man” the way a public restroom might, any more than a bedroom vanity has to be labeled “woman”. In both cases, the purpose is obvious.
Don’t doubt that one bit.
Oops sorry. Not Kate. That would be Ms. Ruidas.
Thus the need for the Man-Cave....
Time to bring back beating women until morale improves.
A garage? I had one once, now the Wife has it packed with stuff.
Lol. Crazy bimbos. In my house, everything is decorated and arranges as my wife, queen of the hive, wants it. She manages the house day to day ops. I follow orders, do maintenance and help as needed. That’s her role in our marriage. I provide for and protect the family. We both are very involved and active in raising, coaching, teaching and disciplining our kids.
I have a man cave. It’s a part of the garage. It’s my shop with my tools and stuff. The only thing the wife does in there is place items that need repair or maintenance. But it is my space. My man cave.
SF feminists can go suck start a Kenworth for all I care.
I have an area in my basement that I call my ‘man cave’ (I’m straight married female) where I keep my workbench, mechanics tools, power tools and gun reloading equipment. My husband, MrR tends to find it offensive that I call it that but he has a right.
Very few women sew and thus have ‘sewing rooms’ it is considered ‘unfeminist’. Those who do sew tend to be interested in costume or design like me.
I have both a large sewing room and a ‘man cave’.
An aftermarket 4-position switch is needed: COOK - CLEAN - F*** - OFF
And no note about ISIS sex slaves, nothing more about Boko Haram’s kidnapped Christian girls except an old hash tag recycling.
A friend has the HWHC. We play poker and watch football there. No girls allowed.
Heman Woman Haters Club -— little rascals.
Lol. I can hear Kahns speaking those words!
I think it’s a dumb phrase.
