Russia’s defence ministry says an SU-24 fighter jet has been shot down near Syria’s border with Turkey.

Turkey said its fighter jets have shot down a warplane after it violated Turkey’s airspace. The jet was warned 10 times in the space of five minutes over airspace violations before it was shot down by F-16 fighter jets, the Turkish military said in a statement.

The Turks may be members of NATO but they are Islamic Brotherhood supporters...hope Russia kicks there butts and then they plead for the Israelis (who they have unfairly attacked for years) to help them with their drones...then maybe the Turks can kick Russian butt and then back and forth...

I hope not. Turkey has been a very unreliable ally at best. We should have demanded their ouster from NATO when they refused to help us in 2003.

Agree from recently. But they kicked some serious ass during the Korean War, especially as POW's.

Well, I think that’s an highly unlikely response, even for Putin’s arrogance.

It might also be that Russia knows exactly where they put their planes and they were trying salami tactics, but Turkey had already warned them that their next plane entering Turkish airspace will be shot down and then followed through.

This is a route that Russian bombers took yesterday. See how it was taking the game of "I'm not touching you" to rather extreme lengths. Russia likes these kinds of provocations for some reason.

Turkey (Erdogan) is getting erratic & dangerous.

Turkey knows well that Russia is conducting air strikes across the border in Syria. Turkey is, too. There is no reason to believe the Russian plane threatened Turkey in any way. This act just makes a dangerous situation worse.

France is conducting airstrikes in Syria. Will Turkey shoot down a French Bomber?

Obama/NATO is trying to negotiate a cooperation agreement with Russia to destroy ISIS while avoiding confrontations with Russian military. Isn’t Turkey, as a member of NATO, a part of this effort? How does this Turkish aggression help further cooperation with Russia?

What will Turkey do when Syria retakes the Syrian land along the Turkish border, then moves S300 AA defenses right up to the border threatening all of southern Turkish aircraft? Would Putin seek revenge? Of course he would. Turkish pilots now have a Russian target on their backs.

If I was Putin right now I’d be furious. I’d be burning the ear of Obama, NATO, & Hollande with anger & threats. I’d be seriously considering destroying the Turkish radar installations along the Syrian border. And I would redouble my efforts to retake the Syrian/Turkish border so I could arm the area to the teeth & Threaten the hell out of Erdogan.

Turkey has been complicit in the flow of men & arms to/from ISIS. It is now shooting down the planes of our would be allies against ISIS. I have no idea how the militarily/diplomatically incompetent Obama will handle this, but I doubt he is happy with Erdogan right now.
