How Ted Cruz Would Have Handled That Heckler from Black Lives Matter Differently Than Donald Trump
American Spectator ^ | 11.23.15 | Aaron Goldstein

Posted on 11/23/2015 9:49:42 AM PST by Isara

A handful of Donald Trump's supporters played right into the hands of Black Lives Matter when they roughed up one of their members who was heckling Trump at a rally in Birmingham, Alabama over the weekend. From the podium, Trump shouted to the heckler "get the hell out of here" and told security to "throw him out."

...Trump added fuel to the fire during an appearance on FOX News when he said, "Maybe he should have been roughed up because it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing." Trump also claimed the heckler, who has been identified as Mercutio Southall, was "looking for trouble."....

...

So what if Southall had turned up at a Cruz rally and began heckling? I can't see Cruz telling security to throw him out. Instead, Cruz would have invited Southall on stage and challenged him to a debate right then and there. Cruz would give Southall an opportunity to speak his peace and then Cruz would take his arguments apart. He would have taken a piece out of Black Lives Matter without so much as an angry word.

The bottom line is that Cruz would have taken the high road. Of course, such a thing would never happen with Trump. He knows no high roads, only the gutter. Since he cannot debate ideas, he insults people. Trump is the Don Rickles of American politics only without the humor.

Of course, Trump's supporters will defend him to the bitter end. But if one has to write about Republican presidential candidates and Black Lives Matter, I sure as hell would rather write about how Ted Cruz debated a member of Black Lives Matter than write about how a few of Donald Trump's supporters beat up a member of Black Lives Matter with Trump egging them on.

Yeah, if Cruz actually behaved according to the Queensbury rules of engagement with a rabid dissident, it would be nice, but hardly inspiring.

Just went searching for the Cruz/Code Pink video. I had never seen it. Wow. He showed a heck of a lot more patience than I would have shown.

And he politely destroyed her.

Many Americans identify with Trump’s style in such matters because it is refreshing to see someone just cut through the crap and yell, “Get him the hell out of here” because that is what they would do (or at least would want to do).

Cruz, however, is calm, cool and collected. He is even friendly to the jerks. Most important of all, he is absolutely deadly to the other side’s narrative.

I love it when Trump just comes right out and says what he thinks, PC nonsense be damned. That, even more than his actual stance on issues, is what drives his support. I understand that and, as mentioned, love it when Trump acts like Trump. It is both entertaining and a joy to behold.

Cruz, however, is a very rare breed. He can eviscerate progressive idiots with logical arguments instead of bombast and... seems to relish the opportunity to do so.

In a debate with Hillary you would get a typical non-answer from her and Trump saying, “Who cares? You’re a liar. And you’re ugly.”

Cruz would pointedly show her (and America) the idiocy of the progressive mindset and, hopefully, establish conservative thought as the dominant force in American politics for decades (destroying the GOPe, as well).

Style? Trump wins. Substance? Cruz stands alone.

I like Ted Cruz, but he’s no leader. He’s a rookie Senator, that needs to apprentice with Trump. He’s managed to tick off people from all backgrounds, and garnishes only the religious right in Iowa. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins Iowa. Good for him.

But Trump is the man for our times.

You don’t pick a president because he’s the most eloquent debator. You pick the man who will lead us.

How can you possibly give Trump low marks for the 2nd Amendment and taxes.

There are people on this forum that are weird.

They have no idea how he would have handled it because he was not there!

Cruz’s shown over and over he knows not only what the high road is, but also how to win taking the high road. There’s a big difference between insulting one’s opponents and being able to gracefully and intelligently demonstrate to others that one’s position is superior.

He hasn’t shown crap at “taking the high road” he is where he is because Trump has wiped out the competition.

Right there, that is why Trump leads.

Called Balls.

Great chart of who’s ready to be Commander in Chief. Many characteristics need to come together to make a good leader.

Thanks for posting this. Every time I read these collections, it’s striking how few of his positions are even remotely conservative.

You are over thinking things.

What is obvious is that children love teddy bears, and Ted enticed them, and their parents, and other parents in Mexico who saw that on TV, that ‘we’ welcomed them into our country.

Notice he no longer does that?

Even Ted sees the obvious.

Well, you do seem to give a pass to those who eagerly spread the lie. Not really my style.

I don’t mind so much, and I’ve said as much to Isra directly.

I find the chart a laughable, and unfortunate.

Isra has been reduced, reduced, to using lies to go after the other candidates, primarily Trump.

That was something I predicted months and months ago, those who want trump out will be left with very little to work with, and so all they will have are lies to use against him.

Even I could find good things to say about Cruz. Positive things why he would be a good President.

Isra, not so much I guess.

I can see that you don’t understand what is at stake any better than Trump does.

Telling him to shut up merely establishes the obvious: that you disagree.

Engaging and drawing them out as Cruz always does with malefactors allows him to establish for all to see what is wrong with their stance, and lays them to public shame, rather than letting them advance their cause in a forum that isn’t theirs to abuse.

Exactly.

Trump is a bully. Cruz is a statesman. As soon as conservatives figure that out, the race will change.

Dude, Cruz was fighting when Hillary Clinton was still cashing your guy's campaign donations.

Very possibly the single most ignorant and false statement of the year.

Cruz led the most successful litigation arm of the century as solicitor general of the state of Texas.

The rulings that he was able to garner are without question the most important of the last century. Sadly, you probably aren't sufficiently aware of your surroundings to even know what they are or why they are of such import.
