WILTON, Iowa (AP) â Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson likens his learning foreign policy to his ability to absorb changing complex medical practices. But Carson is standing by his support for monitoring groups he describes as "anti-American" and keeping Syrian refugees out of the United States.
Carson has been pushed into the spotlight as he's among the leaders in national, and early voting state Republican polls. And yet, some have criticized the retired celebrated neurosurgeon as having insufficient grasp of foreign policy.
Referring to critics, Carson said Sunday at a meeting of about 400 eastern Iowa GOP activists: "They say 'Carson doesn't know anything about foreign affairs.'"
Carson pointed to the continuing medical education all physicians are required to obtain as a sign of his capacity to learn, and said he would seek help from advisers.
"It doesn't matter, because what is really needed is a clear understanding of what the problems are and the ability to work with very talented people that we have," he said. "The world is changing very quickly. We have to be willing to continually update our knowledge and adjust to the things that are going on in our country."

THAT is why Christianity is so important to the American psyche ....
WE have, as a core value, INDIVIDUAL liberty and freedom to determine for ourselves which path we take in life
Jesus speaks and we either listen or not .... obey or not
and all through HIS discourse is the everpresent choice between eternal damnation and eternal life and glory
Americans USED TO HAVE the constant reminder to choose life
You do realize you posted this 3 times? LOL - however, you make a great point.
Ouch.
I think you have to really pay attention to foreign affairs for years, and analyze what’s going on as you go, to have an intuitive grasp of what’s going on in the world and who the players are. Carson’s a terrific surgeon and a lovely man, but if he hasn’t been paying serious attention to the world at large for some time, it’s a bit late to pick it up now.
He ran in the first place because of a speech he gave at the National Prayer Breakfast a few years ago. He actually belittled ObamaCare in his presentation and that ignited those who finally saw anybody willing to take it to Obama’s face in a public setting.
People were instantly calling for his candidacy and looking at who is running his campaign, Armstrong Williams, he was groomed and prepared to be the same as Obama, beholden to those who want the system run by new bosses with a figurehead who had won favor of the political side of Carson’s leanings. The bottom line is that Williams was setting himself up to be the new string puller as Soros did when cultivating Obama.
It is as simple as that. The good Doctor was expected to give a wonderful speech for Obama because of what they read about him in his book. He became a “hero” to many who had nobody else to hang their hat on.
But now that we have two non-establishment “leaders” at the top to hang our hats on, cultist candidates are not needed to carry us forward and Carson was just that all along, a feel-good cultist candidate who made his popularity on just one speech and all that speech had to do with was his specialty, health care.
Truz. No one else.
The guy who empties the waste baskets here could do a better job with US foreign policy than “O”... so why is it an issue what Carson... or anyone else, would do?
The presidency is not a job for learning the ropes. As the current occupant has shown.
In better times, easier times, times without war, without the threat of subversion by our own political class.
In times when terrorists did not walk amongst us.
When our children were better educated in the history of their country.
In those times we could hazard an experiment with a *fine man* like Dr. Carson.
But these are not those times.
In these times boldness of thought and action are required.
These times were brought upon us by traitors from within who threw open the gates for the barbarian hordes.
In these times we need a combination of men.
George Washington, whose dogged determination and faith saw him through years of defeats to ultimately win victory and independence.
George Patton who prepared himself from youth to be not an officer but a warrior. Who knew from gut instinct the proper course of action.
Thomas Jefferson who penned the Declaration of Independence, served as President of a young nation and expanded that nation by peaceful means.
Ronald Reagan who dared to swim against the current and by doing so brought the country to heights not seen since the victories of WWII.
ALL of these men can be picked apart by observers, they were only mortal men after all.
There are two men in this race who, together, contains all those qualities.
Sorry Ben.
You aren’t one of them.
Didn’t we just go through two terms of an OJT Leader?
Not to denigrate Dr. Carson. He is a fine, God-fearing man.
He is a conscientious objector based on his SDA religion, and; now add he cannot even comprehend the facts of an INTEL briefing. Unbelievable. And the pals this guy hangs around with are not those a normal MD would.
He boldly admits he doesn't know anything about the most important role a POTUS can have.
Or, not enough.
And he does it while telling us how smart he is and that he can always stay at a Holiday Inn Express the night before any important decisions are made...
Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader
PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....
GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!
“I have no idea why you say he was unclear on amnesty.
Further, shall we list the strange things Trump has said and done or letâs just sweep them under the carpet? Maybe we should start with imminent domain.
Iâll vote for Trump but prefer Cruz, but some of the irrational things said by FReepers hurt how others view Trump.”
Cruz was extremely vague about amnesty from the beginning of the campaign. When Trump was getting flak for talking about deportation, Cruz said..... nothing. For months, he said..... nothing. He even went so far as to say that Americans didn’t want to have the discussion about what to do with the illegals here until the wall was built. (ie, trust me, vote for me, then I’ll surprise you!) He lost me with that condescending statement. Just a few weeks ago he finally came out with a policy on illegal immigration-the part about what to do with illegals here is still much more vague than the other candidates’. It says ‘deportation along with other options.’ Other options-like citizenship?
Eminent domain hasn’t destroyed the border states, doesn’t create crime, doesn’t further dumb down our schools, doesn’t make us press 1 for English, doesn’t cost taxpayers billions in healthcare, education, food stamps, housing, and welfare, and doesn’t steal American jobs.
It’s the Cruz fanatics on here that turn people away from Cruz. I can ping you to dozens of posts insulting Trump supporters, showing outright hatred for Trump, - they are emotional and irrational just like the liberals. They can’t just have a discussion without turning vile and ugly.
LOL, I just ignored the spelling error, but I like your approach better
“otherwise law-abiding illegals.”
Only liberals and Cruz supporters can find no problem with that oxymoron.
The millions waiting in line-and voters - deserve better than big-donor-induced subterfuge.
We already tried letting one affirmative action neophyte cut his teeth on the highest office in the land, and we all know how well that worked out for everyone.
I don’t know why this keeps happening...two and three posts...and it’s ONLY on FR that happens....I’m worn out trying to determine why it’s happening....I can’t seem to find the “fix”. If there is one on this end.
.....” If you are not supporting Trump, why not?”.....
...We already have someone like that in the White House. Do we really want that again? The rally’s, supporters, and debates are more than a little similar.
...Trump has done a lot of major opinion changing on key issues in a very short period of time so the question is which Donald would we get? He’s already warned his supporters..” you have to make compromises, that that’s just the way it is”. So what does that statement really mean?
...Obama said exactly what he was going to do if he was elected but people ignored all the transforming America stuff because they liked the “ the hope and change” thing...The Don uses “Make America Great Again”....but people are ignoring the otherwise spoken and excusing or covering for Trump.
The list could go on...But I’m looking for s statesman because I’m sick and tired of seeing entry level people “try” to be President.....Our nation needs stability and I don’t see the Trump bringing that to the table. His very personality will assure that won’t happen.
[Marco Rubio] won't even win the Florida primary...should he last that long.
Maybe not.
Then again, maybe so.
The RealClearPolitics average of recent polls has Rubio trailing Donald Trump by 14 percentage points.
On the other hand, a poll conducted on November 11, by the Florida Times-Union, shows only a one-point gap there.
In any case, polls conducted this far in advance of the actual event are notoriously unreliable.
No. Not at all.
What I am saying is that men and women, as individual groups, do not always tend to favor the same candidate. That can be for reasons of temperament; for reasons of specific policies; or both.
And Rubio seems to be doing rather well with female voters--who do, after all, comprise more than half of the total electorate. (So that is a rather important voting bloc.)
