My "substantive response" to So when *does* that stubble become a beard?

Didn't think one was necessary.

My response was deliberately dismissive of an irrelevant non sequitur.

However, since you insist upon one:

The point at which stubble becomes a beard is subjective. In my humble opinion, it takes place when the owner makes an effort at grooming it in some way...defining the edges, trimming the length; or as in the case of the Duck Dynasty guys, when no obvious intent at grooming is evidenced.

But really, denying the obvious analogical similarities with a pretentious Latin cliché, and that offered in a contextual vacuum, is just weak.
