Trump has done some good things, including giving the other candidates a spine, but we need a principled, intelligent, courageous president with a solid track record, like Cruz.
Done some good things?? 20 years ago a candidate like Cruz would have been good. Today, however, we’re in a war for the preservation of our Republic. This will require a fighter who doesn’t care to play politics. Trump is at a point is his life and career where he doesn’t give a crap what people think and is about as anti-PC as they come. The GOPe, the Dems and the DC establishment (lobbyists, lawyers, pundits) are very, very, worried because they see the gravy train possibly ending. Cruz, for all his strong points, IF (and that’s a big if) were to win the general election would have a very difficult time getting things done because he is despised in Congress, despised by the media, and needs the money from big donors. Trump is despised too, but he has the chutzpah, and gravitas, to get things done, and doesn’t need anyone’s money to get there. Four years of Trump will start to turn the ship around where, maybe, someone like Cruz can run with the ball from there.

That's true. But you're not addressing the issue of Trump*s pragmatism. How do we know what he*s going to be pragmatic about if we don*t know what his core principles are? He hasn*t articulated them, AFAIK.
Saying that he will choose good advisers is fine as far as it goes, but he has to evaluate the advisers that he chooses. What principles will his choices be based on?
We can*t afford to be on a *trust me* basis with the next Republican presidential nominee. We need someone with principles and a solid track record.
