A friend of mine who was in Dubai about this time last year told me that they had giant Christmas trees in all the shopping malls and in the airport concourse.

FWIW, the origin of the Christmas tree was pagan anyway. A Germanic tribe, the Druids, were mainly responsible for its introduction into Christmas lore. Ollie Cromwell had them banned briefly for that very reason.
