Comedy legend Mel Brooks is a huge Donald Trump fan, but not because of his political prowess.
The "Spaceballs" and "Blazing Saddles" director said Tuesday that the Republican presidential candidate, who currently is fourth in the Washington Examiner's presidential power rankings, is "grist for the comic mill and we need it, God bless him."
"I hope he never drops out of the race," Brooks continued. "If I were doing a sitcom I'd do it about a powerful idiot like this guy, who's running a big corporation or a big network and we'd get to see behind the scenes what an idiot he is."
Brooks made the comments to Entertainment Weekly's Gillian Telling after being asked, "What do you think about the comedy landscape these days?"
He responded by discussing the hilarity he found in Trump's public battle with Fox News.
"The most interesting thing happening was Fox News turning on Trump," Brooks said. "That's hysterical. It's like Bavaria fighting with Austria - they're both Germans!"
"I like Trump," he went on to say. "Thank God for Trump."
Trump ended his Fox News boycott in September when he went on the "The O'Reilly Factor" for an interview with Bill O'Reilly.

[No matter the mocking or hatefulness from many from many of the people]
Can we assume you’re referring to Mel Brooks?
I always loved ya Mel - even now that you’ve gone senile. If you like Trump as a candidate you’ll LOVE him as president!
IIRC Sid Cesar wrote virtually none of the stuff he performed (but he performed it very well).
Washington Examiner Presidential Power Rankings:
1. Rubio
2. Cruz
3. Carson
4. Trump
Considering that she led with the subject: you're assuming wrong.
Neil Simon and Mel Tolkin did most of Caesars writing. Brooks did some, as did Woody Allen later on.
Yeah, I know. I’m trying to get her to go back and reread the context of the article.
She’ll probably regret posting the thread because the title gave her false hope.
The only movie of his that made me laugh was “The Producers”. The rest of them stank. He’s not funny.
Mel made funny movies, not so much for political punditry.
Or maybe he’s smart enough to realize, first, Obama is taboo; second Hillary is going after anybody dissing her.
That’s our Mel. See this its 90 minutes

Another son of European Jews immigrants to our country to make a better life and to contribute to our country’s fortune, in this case our culture
Get smart, the brilliant sometimes crass satire space balls, the producers, satire of hitler and the nazis, Sid Caesars show of shows
He’s among greats such as Irving Berlin, the gershwins, Marvin Hamlisch, the Marx brothers. Their contribution to our wonderful culture is under obamas heel right now
This common sense endorsement proves his wisdom
