Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to ask feds not to send more Syrian refugees

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Tuesday waded into a controversial debate over whether to welcome refugees from Syria after last week’s deadly terrorist attacks in Paris, saying he would ask the federal government to halt such settlements in his state.

The move was unusual for the first-term Republican governor, who has so far been more pragmatist than ideologue. He joined nearly two dozen other GOP governors who have taken similar positions, including his close friend and political mentor, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

“I am now requesting that federal authorities cease any additional settlements of refugees from Syria in Maryland until the U.S. government can provide appropriate assurances that refugees from Syria pose no threat to public safety,” Hogan said on his Facebook page.

How about the Governor’s of these States callout their National Guard. Have them load UP these “ refugees from Syria” and transport them all to DC and and unload them there right in front of the WH.

Done deal.

I will be making that suggestion known to Gov. Rick Scott tomorrow.

The problem with properly vetting refugees is not limited to Syria. Third world countries do not generally have the intelligence and law enforcement infrastructure to maintain criminal records, terrorist ties, or biometric data even in paper form. They are also notoriously vulnerable to bribery and nepotism. Even less likely to be able to store such information digitally in a distributable format. Even less so to have the infrastructure and resources to consolidate that information at a national level and keep it updated and accurate. Even less so to be willing to share it with the West. Another words, accepting refugees from any non-Western nation with significant anti-American sub-populations is risky business.

Thank God for Hogan, and may he remain “strong”!

I read the “reactions” from all the Dems in this state. All as expected, whining about the poor refugees, how it is American to take in people, none of us is “native American”, etc. Bastard commies.

Most 3rd worlders hate us, especially muslims. So why import them?

I think not allowing terrorists in your state is pragmatic, unlike the author.

I just saw on Twitchy that the Baltimore mayor is offering sanctuary to the refugees in her city. With the crime there, they should feel right at home!

Agreed. I hope the Governor has overcome his reported health problems and is doing well.

The move was unusual for the first-term Republican governor, who has so far been more pragmatist than ideologue.

So now, a pragmatic move to make sure no more Syrian refugees are settled in Maryland until they can be properly vetted is considered ideological? People who want to ensure the safety of their citizens are now ideologues?

Maryland "Freak State" PING!
