McCain is far more upset with Senator Cruz than with ISIS and other Muslim terrorists.

McCain and his bro McConnell are at war with the Cruz in the senate and the Tea party. They have done more to harm conservatives than have the Democrats. They sold themselves as alternatives to the socialists but were really just a little grease for the skids. They both deserve the Benedict Arnold award for life time achievements in their supporting roles in the destruction of liberty and the “fundamental transformation of America”. Cruz having McCain as his enemy is a powerful endorsement of his fitness for office.

A religious test is actually a standard measurement of determining refugee status.
8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(42) The term 'refugee' means (A) any person who is outside any country of such person's nationality or, in the case of a person having no nationality, is outside any country in which such person last habitually resided, and who is unable or unwilling to return to, and is unable or unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of, that country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion, or (B) in such special circumstances as the President after appropriate consultation (as defined in section 1157(e) of this title) may specify, any person who is within the country of such person's nationality or, in the case of a person having no nationality, within the country in which such person is habitually residing, and who is persecuted or who has a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. The term 'refugee' does not include any person who ordered, incited, assisted, or otherwise participated in the persecution of any person on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.

There should be a pause in taking in these refuges - but only until the war on terror is won by the U.S. After the war, resume immigration policies that are beneficial to the U. S.

I’m not worried about Buddhists or atheists either. It’s the Muslims. McCain can’t even mention them, because he knows saying we don’t have to worry about Muslims is just too stupid.

When you have a perpetrator and a victim, the one normally given the refugee status is the victim. But then, that was before we had a closet muslim in charge.

With Schumer now coming around and likely bringing a decent number of Democrats with him, the only REAL PROBLEM is getting the left-wing REPUBLICANS that we seem to be unable to remove from office to understand that they were not elected to protect MASS KILLERS.

McCain slams Cruz's call for religious test for refugees
The problem I see is Cruz's hypocrisy when he has been preaching religious liberty for a week. Now it looks like he wants to pick and choose which religions have liberty.
That's the problem with not thinking through what you wish/pray/preach for.

McCain said using a religious test on Syrian refugees, especially children, makes no sense.McCain is a sitting Senator. Maybe he should make sure that Christian refugees are not turned away, as they seem to be right now.
Maybe McCain can look into the treatment of Christians by the Syrian "moderates" who are killing them, and destroying their churches.
Maybe McCain can look into what is happening to the Coptic Christians in Egypt.
