TSA Spokesman Mike England said TSA re-screened all carry-on and checked bags, and found no safety threats.

Something here doesn't add up. If they were merely watching a newscast on a smartphone, why were all carry-on and checked bags re-screened?

I understand most people who work for the TSA are as dumb as bricks, but even they wouldn't go to something so time consuming without more of a threat than described.

First part of your statement requires them to follow a script.

The TSA keeps flunking govt.-conducted tests on actually finding things like planted bombs, guns, etc. in baggage. So, double checking may have been prudent.
