Man Shot By Police Dies After Night Of BLM Protests, Family Says

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Jamar Clark, the 24-year-old north Minneapolis man who was shot by police Sunday, has been taken off life support and has died, according to family members.

Clark’s shooting has ignited a series of protests by the group Black Lives Matter.

On Monday, more than 50 people were arrested during a Black Lives Matter protest that shut down I-94W in Minneapolis for over two hours.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning on Plymouth Avenue North. Police were responding to a report of a man, later identified as Clark, assaulting a woman.

On the way to that call, police were notified that Clark was interfering with paramedics. When police arrived, they say there was a struggle and an officer shot Clark.

Witnesses have said Clark was handcuffed at the time, but police and state investigators say it appears, preliminarily, that was not the case.

Relatives of Clark told WCCO that he has been taken off life support and has died.

On Sunday night, a woman went bananas on the phone with me because she continued to wait, north of 30 mins, for a cab in north Minneapolis. This was at about 3:10am. Four passengers, 3 children plus herself.

Finally I explained to her that Sunday overnight hours were the absolute worst time to try to get a taxi: there are many fewer drivers on duty b/c they already worked the weekend shift and were resting up for the M-Sat workweek. I also reminded her that there are no buses, trains, or other forms of public transportation because MOST PEOPLE HAVE TO GO TO WORK OR SCHOOL on Monday morning, therefore there was no demand.

You could have heard a pin drop on that phone call.
