Ever since 911, the big pitch has been "the government should protect us." Excuuuuuse me, but WE THE PEOPLE are the government in this country. The Second Amendment says that THE PEOPLE serving in a "well regulated militia" (literally meaning that they get regular practice) are "NECESSARY to the security of a free state." Well? If it's truly "necessary," I sure don't see ANY of it, but I do see gobs of police that are making me wonder about the "free" part. So no wonder we feel insecure.
The ONLY way to control terrorism is if THE PEOPLE are the police, educated in the law, armed for and trained in its execution, and compensated for disproportionate effort and risk. There is no way we will ever have enough police to accomplish rid this country of both terrorists and the 1-out-of-15 residents that happen to be illegal.
