What kind of fighting for sport is not “degenerate” then? Sports always originated as physical training for defense of a country.

Truly degenerate “sport” would be of the fight-to-the-death gladiator sort.

Boxing and that MMA stuff are in the same vein in my view. Take away the lights, colored shorts and referee and what you have isn't far removed from those backyard fight videos caught on cell phone and posted online.

An audience gathered around to gleefully watch two other people beat themselves bloody and unconscious is not demonstrative of a decent society.

Contests for training of warriors is one thing. Contests put on to feed the blood lust of spectators is something else.
