Human nature has not changed. The political elites think they can control an individual's behavior thru government edict. Our Founders accepted Man's basic nature and established checks and balances to deal with it. Capitalism does the same thing understanding that greed, wealth accumulation, etc. can lead to innovation and achievement. Socialism denies those basic understandings about what motivates the individual. Ayn Rand did an excellent job of showing the differences.

Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual)

Culture does, and certainly has, changed; you said so yourself.

As for the rest of what you wrote, I have no idea what you're talking about, as I have said nothing in this thread about laws or rights.
