Maybe the publisher should buy smaller aircraft carriers.

What happened to the old respectful “Brought to you by” meme. An ad like that wouldn’t block because the sponsor would be hosted by the same server as the material being sponsored. And there would be some cooperation between the content provider and the advertiser so the result did not come across as chaotic. The likely result, an order of magnitude higher click rate, especially if clicks raised panels that requested to open new windows.

I'm cool with the banner type ads or those within a page. The jag-offs who do pop-ups which block what you are trying to read is an entirely different matter.

I fully understand the need for revenue to support on-line content, but it doesn't have to be done in such an obnoxious, in-your-face style.

And the obnoxious forms end up chasing the law of diminishing returns. They get fewer willing looks, so they feel the need to shout in your face, making them even more obnoxious, ad nauseum.

I immediately close any site that pops up an ad, or makes me sit through a 30 second commercial before I can view 5 seconds of content.

Yep. They really aren't so different than what I call the porn slappers who haunt the streets of so many major cities. I'm sort of a libertarian kind of guy. I think that if a fellow wants to pay to get laid, he should be able to do so.

But I also think a guy should be able to walk down the street to get from point A to point B without one of these sleezeballs blocking your path and pushing it in your face.

I use Ad Block Premium and Ghostery to block pop ups and to eliminate these bastards from stealing my info on most searches.

The other part of this is the “ad assault” we are experiencing is on our telephones ( don’t you just love the “Do Not Call List”). We now have “fake ringtones” on our land line that gives the robodialers the false idea that they’ve reached a disconnected number and both my wife and I create “contacts” on our cell phones for telemarketer calls. We have them listed as “Assholes one through X,” so when they re-call, we know that they are telemarketers and the call is not to be answered. As of this writing, my wife has about 100 “Assholes” on her phone and at least a half a dozen of them call every day. I told one guy who called that I was going to hunt him down and kill him, and he told me he was going to sue me for the remark. I said good, because you have to have evidence of what I said (a recording of our conversation) and if you do, here in California, that’s a felony because you didn’t advise me that you were recording the call. He hasn’t called back. President Trump or Cruz needs to make the Do Not Call LIst effective, and further there needs to be severe penalties against AT&T for giving all the off-shore telemarketers access to their US customers. AT&T is the biggest POS as a company that you can imagine.

Reported with assumptions typical of the left. Like when they ask how politicians plan to “pay for” tax cuts, as if that money belongs to the government.

Ad Blocking is not a cause of lost revenue. It is a market condition that requires businesses to adapt.

BS. An add blocked is no different than a TV commercial ignored. Do they claim a financial loss because you went to the bathroom instead of watching their commercials?

“Spam faxes are illegal.”

Like it matters to those who send them. My experience is that they all come from off-shore locations abetted by lines that AT&T supplies them. I got mad at one guy who was “selling cruises” from Cancun. Mexico. He actually told me to GFMyself that he was untouchable. Needless to say, I didn’t book a cruise.

I love the one going around now identifying themselves as the IRS, and you need to call their number to prevent seizure, litigation, and prison time in an ominous electronic voice.

As much as the government monitors electronic communication, wouldn't you think they would be able stop sh__ like this.

And don't get me started on the Windows Repair Team....... I have game going with friends to see how long we can keep them on the line.

I'm leading our league with an hour and 6 minute call. What doufouses.

I’m very happy to report that I’ve been doing my share to add to that 10 billion revenue loss. Not only do I have practically every useful ad blocker and anti-tracker known to mankind, but I automatically install FF with the same extensions on all the computers of my clients and encourage them to try out FF instead of IE.

Oh well. Sucks to be them.

Stop intruding and maybe I'll turn mine off.

Weird that Paul Bedard went here. I'm old enough to remember when he wasn't a corporatist tool.

Ghostery works and is eye revealing re how many rectums are monitoring our searches and log ons.

I spent a few hours going through my links and using Ghostery to block the spying bastards. Some sites had over a dozen data mining bastards.

Ad Block Plus and Ghostery and Norton safe search speeds up my searches and weeding out unsafe links.

I like NoScripts as one can easily exempt favorite sites. It’s a bit of a pain at first but soon becomes your friend.
