I didn’t think it looked like a derailment, either. Pieces of the cars seem to be separated more than I’d expect.

The TGV trains ain't your normal choo choo.

The TGV holds the world speed record for conventional trains. On 3 April 2007 a modified TGV POS train reached 574.8 km/h (357.2 mph) under test conditions on the LGV Est between Paris and Strasbourg.

The AFP news agency is quoting sources as saying the derailment happened due to "excessive speed".
