Is Ted Cruz the Real GOP Frontrunner? (Cruz wins money race, takes Walker, Perry donors)
PJ Media ^ | November 13, 2015 | Tyler O'Neil

Polls can be deceiving, but money talks. According to fundraising, Texas Senator Ted Cruz is the frontrunner in the GOP presidential race. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson have raked in the cash from big and small donors, respectively, but only Ted Cruz has both a strong and balanced appeal.

At this point in the presidential race, the money a candidate has raised, and from whom, may be a stronger indicator of longevity than his or her position in the “horse race” polls. Former Texas Governor Rick Perry had a rich super PAC, but his lack of grassroots support, which translated to an inability to raise money from small donors, killed his campaign. A majority of his former donors — along with those of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker — have flocked to Cruz.

Ted Cruz ranks second in overall GOP fundraising to Ben Carson, and second in total dollars (including super PACs) to Jeb Bush. His ratio of low-dollar to high-dollar donors is healthy, and despite his enmity with the Republican Party’s establishment, he has a surprisingly high number of endorsements from elected officials.

Fundraising Balance is Critical to Presidential Campaigns

Because I am a Cruz supporter, here's a plug for him:

Are we going to have an election? Paris looks to me like a dry run.

Yes but. . . Trump is a different animal because he is not lobbying donors. I like Ted the best of the bunch, but that particular measurement is not the same for Trump since he is running, at least in appearance, on funding his own campaign

We’ve had elections under far worse conditions.
Whoever cancels elections will immediately be considered a domestic enemy.

Your theory is Cruz is the leader because he is second in raising money to Ben Carson. Interesting....Trump is in the process of shooting himself in the foot which will only strengthen Ben Carson. I do think Ted Cruz will come in second if he can beat the Establishment candidate Rubio.

Does that make him the “winner” or is that an indication that he has the most high roller, deep pockets donors with their hooks into him, who will at the time of their choosing, pull on the string and call in their markers?

Your theory just got shot in the foot by the events in Paris today. Those events will just propel Trump even higher in the polls. Cruz will rise to 2nd place over time.

Cruz as the frontrunner?! Of what? He’s got no more chance of the nomination or winning the election than does Bush, Rubio, Carson, Paul, etc. Cruz lost long ago and nothing will change that now.

Hey, my old one was supporting Trump, including with hundreds of dollars. But his H1B and amnesty positions, his martyrdom turned me off. Happier with the clarity that Trump offers. You overreach with comparisons to Obama, unless you are looking in the mirror and ignoring that Cruz supported Obama’s TPP and Iran deal. How do you explain or accept his hypocrisy?

I’ve been a solid Trump supporter, but some of his comments grate on me. Cruz is moving up ...

You don’t think big money donors are the reason Cruz hasn’t updated his position on legalizing illegals—and refuses to say what he’ll do with them now when he’s on the campaign trail?

Cruz supported TPA, which was the mechanism for giving Obama TPP.

Just like he voted for the Corker bill essentially giving Obama the Iran deal.
