That was the McLean family.
At the start of the Civil War, a shell crashed through their kitchen near Manassas, Virginia during the First Battle of Bull Run, or First Manassas, as the southerners called it. (The northerners liked to name the battles after the nearest creek or stream; the southerners liked to name the battles after the nearest town).
The family moved to Appomattox Court House after the first Battle of Bull Run.
The McLean family used to joke that the Civil War started in their kitchen and ended in their living room.
Sorry to go off topic.
This atrocity in Paris is sickening.
Thanks for refreshing my memory on that. - You are so right;
the atrocity in Paris is sickening. - I may be just a
Twinkie; but I’m ramping up the target practice around here.
Husband had military basic training; so he’s already up on
his weaponry ability. - My father, if he could see what
we’re facing in this world, would tell me to always be
ready to “attack hell with a bucket of water”. I have my
great grandfather’s old Smith & Wesson; but it’s over a
hundred years old & I worry that it’ll blow up in my face.
It has been cared for really well; but I most likely need
to get something newer and smaller.
