Reagan was a Democrat until the party left him -- he didn't leave the party.
Trump is donating to the Republican party -- guys like Romney, and it would be interesting to see how much went to McConnell, Boehner, Christie, Jeb, etc. Trump is still backing the party that left me in 2012.
If he backed limited government conservatism, I'd be all for him. But instead he does things like talk about how his health care plan, after he gets rid of Obamacare, is going to "take care of everybody," "the government is going to pay for it" because of "savings" on "the other end" (whatever that is), and that it will be "really, really terrific."
Trump is supporting the Republican party that has been leaving me for years.
Reagan didn't leave the Democrat party, it left him -- that's how he became a Republican.
Trump became a Republican in a party that is functionally Democrat.
Ted Cruz represents the mindset of what I wish the Republican party was -- personally, I think the Republican party is as wrong a fit for Cruz as it is for me and a lot of disillusioned life-long Republicans I know. The Republican party has left us. Trump is funding that Republican party.
It is not possible to have health care paid for by the taxpayers without the taxpayers having a say in how it runs.
I’m very alienated by the GOP and if the nominee is just another company guy, I will leave the party and sit out the election.
I’m just one idiot, but I believe that there are many more like me.
My top pick is Trump, then Carson, Fiorina, and Cruz. Of those, I think most are sure to lose the national election.
Just not feeling optimistic.
Those guys not only put politics before business, the put their businesses, property, and lives on the line. They didn't send as much money to advance the Crown as to advance the opposition in order for their businesses in order to remain prosperous. They risked losing all of it because they put political principle first.
Bringing a business mindset (as Trump does with his "really really terrific" replacement for Obamacare) to government, is a mistake. Bring a political mindset to it. Cruz's political mindset is Constitutional limited government, and it has always been that.
Yes redemption is possible if it’s sought honestly.
My question is, considering we have a man with a High 90th percentile lifetime legacy of conservatism, why do we ignore that man and instead, go with a man in need of redemption to begin with? There is no need. We aren’t bereft of an alternative.
Until DT announced, everyone on this site was tossing words like ‘clown’ around. DT backers were scorned. Today, the people once screaming ‘Clown’ make up his most vocal backers.
Cruz was the fair haired boy that people were lining up to vote for. Salvation was nigh!
And then it wasn’t. People decided politics was our reality TV show. Thats not a slam on Trump. Thats a slam on the people that will worship at whichever Pillars of Styro entertain them.
When you go down the list one for one, Cruz wins in a walk on positions. The one thing trump MIGHT beat him on is immigration and Ted’s plans were totally gung ho great until Trump said “Wall”.
Ted will build that wall too. He will deport too. He will do all the things DT will in general. And he has no need for redemption.
What he will not do is continue socialized medicine under another name and say ‘Sorry conservatives. I love ye but we GOTTA take care of everybody.”
We already did. It’s called medicaid. And it provided better coverage at less cost then socialized anything.
I don’t think DT hates America like Romney does. I think he loves his country very much. But so does Ted Cruz. And Ted, with a couple blown out his ass is far from a man needing redemption as a conservative.
Oh, really?
And then it wasnât. People decided politics was our reality TV show. Thats not a slam on Trump. Thats a slam on the people that will worship at whichever Pillars of Styro entertain them.
First you complain that businessmen do not deserve to become public servants, and then you allow for the entrepreneur founding fathers as an exception. But now no more. Especially if he is Trump.
Nice double standard.
I noticed you avoided my criticism of lawyer/politicians who have done such a lousy job of running the country the past several decades, including the formerly entrepreneurial GWB. Do you concede that point? If not, does the definition of insanity ring any bells?
