The Department of Veterans Affairs VA shelled out more than $142 million in performance bonuses in 2014, the same year that the VA's healthcare scandal exploded and revealed the VA was systematically denying veterans access to health care.
The average individual payout was over $900 for the thousands of employees. A total of 156,000 VA workers qualified for bonuses as a result of being rated them "fully successful" or higher at carrying out their responsibilities last year, including officials at delay-prone hospitals. But those ratings were later found to be inflated, as the vast majority of workers were getting rated highly enough to get a bonus.
More than 325 were compensated with $5,000 to $13,000 in year-end bonuses, according to data given to the Washington Examiner by the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.

I agree. I don’t think any “non-profit” should be giving out bonuses. They may not have shareholders but it is pure profit for the employees. Planned Parenthood gives out bonuses and claims to be “non-profit”...maybe they shouldn’t be selling those baby parts even if it means there’s no bonus.
...those bonuses being the extra cash earned from selling baby parts. I think it’s disgusting they call themselves “non-profit” when bonuses are paid.
For the VA, let me ask - what was improved to deserve a bonus? Were costs lowered? Was quality improved? Were waiting list times improved? We all know the answer; no. They work in a uncompetitive environment with a secure job at taxpayer expense. When they have so many problems, no way anybody should be getting bonuses.
“Performance bonuses”
More like rewarding a lack of performance.
Lack of performance...caused the death of a Nam Vet.
You are so correct.
I don’t doubt that.
The VA murders Veterans through neglect...and these criminal losers get bonuses!!! Truly pathetic. Our “leaders” are asses.
The VA didn’t give those bonuses. We did.
The company I work for is about to go under, but I will still owe the irs on April 15. And the money I send in will again go to dead butt federal employees.
Life is good.
