Interestingly, a lot of premed students major in nutrition. My brother-in-law was one of those.

Surprised me when I found this out, as I had thought it would be similar to what you are thinking.

Hardly. Well trained nutritionists have important functions in a very large number of different kinds of institutions, including hospitals and many medical practices.
