I see how that could have happened. Oswald shoots, the sound hits the bridge abutment, concrete wall wood fence, echos back and sounds like a shot came from there.
I have that happen quite often where I live. It sounds like shots fired in my pasture but it is just shot sounds from other property bouncing off my barn behind my house.
That’s been my theory. Most people don’t realize a bullet in flight makes a lot of noise. There is a semi circular structure nearby that would perfectly focus the transient bullet noise onto the grassy knoll, making it sound like a shot originated from there a split second after Oswald fired.

I like to hunt a small meadow that leads down into a small valley. I sit in the same spot every year among some trees around the perimeter.
If there are more than one deer present, when I take my shot all the other deer just freeze because they can’t tell where the sound came from.
