FWIW, I remember from my days back in school in the 60’s our history books having PICTURES of the flat earth with waters falling off the edge and with (iirc) some kind of dragons or something off the edge waiting to further doom those who went off the edge of the earth.

Yes, but that was to teach you what the low-info population believed at a time in the past. It was not meant to infer that it was a correct belief. But the "new ice age" was, and the warming crap is, being taught as fact.

Correct, it was shown as an example of what some believed in Columbus’ time.

The myth was started by Washington Irving in a semi-fictional biography of Columbus, most likely in part to simplify things, in part to make Columbus looks good, and in part to make people from the past and/or Catholics look like idiots (Irving had priests arguing against Columbus, which they did, but on the grounds that sailing to China headed west was a suicide mission as the circumference of the earth was known, and thus the distance, and Columbus couldn’t carry enough water—Columbus argued that the circumference was much smaller than it in fact is.) The final reason is what makes the myth convenient/popular in many circles.

The great thing about Existential Cage Theory is that there is always more steel to be mined to build more cages. and a surplus of liberals to put in them.

A match made in heaven really.

I guess the science is now settled - that is the liberal phrase, isn't it? Back when I was young though, they taught me silly things like this:

As a "Matter of Science", back then, we thought that biologically male was so much a question of chromosomes only that you didn't need to look at anything else, such as the mood on a particular day, to be sure. Back then, an XY was a boy through and through.

So what’s the model here... whatever is establishing this thing is considered to be able to violate the biological conventions in the direction of making the expression atypical... but it isn’t considered to be susceptible to any kind of influence that would guide the expression to be typical again.

Sounds a lot like the devil, or the Hotel California. You can’t leave (or so they say to you).

And folks who supposedly know the power of God today seem mainly to have one or two responses. To rail at how wicked the person is, or to excuse him/her. Maybe a third option is to band-aid the manifestation in an uneasy detente. Conquest of sin by righteousness hardly ever seems to be on the menu.

How’s this supposed to work, you decide you don’t like what someone has to say, so you brand them a liberal (the act of will involved being existential) — and then make your level best effort to baffle them with B.S., backed up by more acts of will (that being the cage)?

That’s pretty useful for self entertainment, and maybe even for getting the someone to give up on you and go away, but not useful for anything real. Definitely not for any sort of real God.

Why are you jumping on that bandwagon, AAC? An old motto about babies and bathwater comes to mind.

It’s self evident. Act like a liberal, you’re a liberal. Vote for liberals, promote voting for liberals...you know, things liberals do.

Not hard to figure out. Don’t want to be labeled a liberal, Don’t be one.. Don;’t like it? I don’t much care. Don’t read what I post. Don’t respond to it. your call.

And you, Mr. “All sins are equal” are a liberal.

Conquest of sin by righteousness hardly ever seems to be on the menu.

In our contemporary society, that concept is labeled as "hate".

Well bear in mind you are talking to a guy that sees abortion as no worse than masturbating on the sin scale. I believe the stateent was “All sins are the same to god” or something very close to it. But that was the gist. And who, and I quote, was ‘bemused’ over the PP videos when asked why he had been so silent about them.

He also follows me around trolling. Sometime I play, others not. But he’s always there to destroy a thread with his bastardized ‘gospel’. HiTek edition.
