Thomas Gold had lots of theories. He liked pushing them forward.

He tried to convince NASA the moon was powdered into such a fine material it would not support men or landing craft. They wasted a lot of money on that as well.

Many scientists with genius in certain limited fields fail when venturing too far away from their breakthroughs. Even Einstein wasted a lot of his time.
