Note that it was a Fox News reporter that wrote this line. This is a double case of conscious, willing, denial of reality. First by the police detectives who pretend they don't know the motive, and second, by the Fox News reporter who reports the lie with straight-faced deception.
A real journalist, with both guts and brains, would have written something like the following:
Police officials claim to be investigating a motive, but the both long and recent history of violent attacks by Muslims on non-Muslims suggests that this is yet another act of violence motivated by the holy books of Muslim faith, the the violent practices of political Islam.
One of these days, people are going to recognize that Christian spirituality is very different than a liberalized academic study of comparative religions.
It probably won’t occur until they discover an avoidance of Christian thinking simply exposes them to very real devastating consequences.
