That’s not how tariffs work. Tariffs are not imposed on the country from which goods are imported, they are imposed on the companies (or individuals) who are doing the importing.
So, to use Trump’s example, if the U.S. were to impose a 35% tariff on vehicles manufactured in Mexico and imported into the U.S., that 35% would not be paid by the Mexican government. It would be paid by Ford (and other manufacturers who make cars in Mexico and sell them here). And, like all taxes paid by a corporation, Ford would pass that 35% right on to the consumers who purchase the imported cars.
You might want to do yourself a favor and pick up Trump’s new book, Crippled America: How to Make America Great Again
Very educational. In fact, did you know that Mexico has a wall of their own? Yes, on THEIR SOUTHERN border. Isn’t that something?
Here’s how Trump says he’ll make Mexico pay for the wall...since you don’t care to do the research yourself, as you prefer to blather utter Open Borders nonsense....

How?
We could increase the various border fees we charge.
We could increase the fees on temporary visas.
We could even impound remittance payments derived from illegal wages.
Foreign gov’ts could tell their embassies to start helping, otherwise they risk troubled relations with America.

See? No increased taxes, no tariffs.
