That I found the story unremarkable is not in any way diminishing the magnitude of what happened to these people. My point was that this was but one, of many such stories, all as heinous, or in cases where there were no witnesses, much worse.
We never did find out what happened to August in the end and I guess that’s why I didn’t see this story as a big thing. We can surmise he met his fate, at the hands of the Nazi’s but even that is unclear. I was expecting to read that he somehow survived, and went on to live out the rest of his days in relative peace.
