Although Kentucky had elected only one Republican governor in the last four decades, Tea Party favorite Matt Bevin handily defeated Democrat Jack Conway yesterday.
The off-year election, one of many state and local contests held Tuesday âacross the country, was seen by some as a test for outsider candidates at a time when several such candidates are seeking the GOP presidential nomination. Bevin, who has run as an outsider ever since he unsuccessfully challenged Sen. Mitch McConnell last year, was declared the winner over state Attorney General Conway in the gubernatorial race shortly after polls closed Tuesday evening.
The victory comes at a time when the GOPâs establishment says only a moderate can win elections, while the conservative base argues the exact opposite: that only a real, principled conservative can defeat a liberal Democrat. A liberal Republican, they argue, is nothing more than âDemocrat light.â And when people have a choice between the light version and the real thing, these conservatives say, they always go for the latter.
Bevinâs surprise win proves conservatives right. Conway is Kentuckyâs attorney general and had the backing of a powerful political organization, but was brought down by a Tea Party-supported Republican.

“And what the GOP can learn from him”
They won’t learn anything. The lesson could have been learned last November if the GOP was able to learn.
It was indeed a beautiful thing to bear witness to. I sweetened my coffee with the tears of many a KY liberal this morning.
A businessman bested a career politician. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come!
Rove “Tea Party candidates consistently lose!”
Here’s something conservatives can learn
The GOP works for chamber of commerce. They get paid to serve those interests The GOP does not want any majority nor do they want the White House
They hate these off year elections when they can’t block conservatives from getting in, taking majorities, getting governorships, wrecking their money deals with supporters of the invaders
Any Long Island housewife who looks at it with a jaded, cut the BS viewpoint can see that. Everyone seems to live in Hope world
Standing up for a county clerk certainy didn’t hurt his election effort. Question is, just how much did it help?
They wonât learn anything. The lesson could have been learned last November if the GOP was able to learn.
“They wonât learn anything. The lesson could have been learned last November if the GOP was able to learn.’
Worse than that, they’re pi$$ed off that Bevin won! He’s not “the right kind of Republican*”
* One that can be bought by the US Chamber of Communists
B I N G O! That’s the right question.

NBC Ignores Kentucky Electing Anti-ObamaCare GOP Governor
On Tuesday, Kentucky voters elected Matt Bevin to be its next governor, only the second time a Republican has served this position in over 40 years, yet NBC's Today completely ignored the story during its Wednesday morning broadcast.
you’re partially correct- the lessons should’ve been learned in 2010 when the tables were turned at a time when everyone thought obama and the rats were invincible...but as stated here for years the GOPe is the stoopid party...
I live in Michigan but damn if that win didn’t leave me beaming today!
You guys have an awesome team coming in!
I live in Cincy.
I heard all of Bevin’s interviews on the local “Rush-ish” AM station.
The GOP is too stupid to learn from him because they want their cocktail parties inside the 495Beltway.
They are girlie men and Bevin is a real, meat-eating, Christian business man.
Conway, his liberal competition, even had a “GOP girlie” make a lying commercial against him.
Bevin simply is a real person, a real man, a true conservative and he spoke the truth, did grass roots, and learned from the McConnel turtle machine and won.
A far cry from the disaster we had here in Pennsylvania. The teachers unions managed to crank their turnout up to 11 and the Democrats secured the State Supreme Court for the next ten years.
This will have severe effects on redistricting, further attempts at voter ID laws, attempts to apportion our electoral college votes, and anything else that might help Republicans.
