As pointed out on another thread, at one time Merkel was a critic of multiculturalism, and now she erases the borders.
Maybe she thought all too facilely that oh, she could make this group into good Germans, after all she’s succeeded with everybody else.
But you can’t do that with a people that doggedly considers itself exceptional under a deity that is enmity to any deity you may have left.
