I live in an ultra liberal small town of 28,000 on the San Fran peninsula. The city spent $250k for a special election to float a $70 million bond to rebuild our low-key civic center into a Taj Mahal with multiple pools and tens of thousands of square feet of buildings, underground parking, etc. Our soccer and baseball fields would have shrunken to nothing and the open spacious feel converted to a congested, cramped, overstuffed and bloated facility. It was basically a blank check to the town as there were no details in the ballot item.
Here we are in a town where people think government can do no wrong, all government spending is great and Obama is a God — but it was RESOUNDINGLY defeated by a 72% No vote. It needed a 66% Yes vote to pass!
Is there hope? Is there really a point where people have had enough?
