LOUISVILLE, Ky. â Matt Bevin, a Republican political novice, wealthy Louisville businessman and Tea Party favorite, was elected Kentuckyâs next governor on Tuesday, a victory that could herald a new era in a state where Democrats have held the governorâs mansion for all but four of the last 44 years. The Associated Press declared Mr. Bevin the winner shortly after 8 p.m.
In beating his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Jack Conway, Mr. Bevin surprised many in his own party, who believed that the climate in Kentucky was ripe for a Republican but feared that Mr. Bevin, a charismatic conservative with a go-it-alone style, was too far out of the mainstream and too inexperienced to win.
Mr. Bevin, 48, has spent recent weeks traveling Kentucky in a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban with more than 200,000 miles on it; on Tuesday, Election Day, he turned up at two Chick-fil-A restaurants here in Louisville, shaking hands in a last-minute bid for votes.

Woohoo!
meanwhile wasn’t the rat he beat held up as a model of a liberal in the south?? didn’t the rats continually point to kentucky’s obamacare as a great success?
Idiots should have made him their new Senator and spared us all from the continued “leadership” of Harry’s Bitch.
LOL.
Payback is hell and McConnell deserves it.
Kentucky has a recall law? Interesting...
Fantastic news! Hopefully, this is an indication of an anti-democrat mentality taking hold.
Wow, principle matters! Who knew a conservative could win if people voted for one instead of lesser evil? ;)
Thats the outgoing, term limited Dem Governor.
The Dem candidate this time was running ads proclaiming him the true “fiscal conservative” in the race.
We would have just got John Coryn if it wasn’t McConnell. So, in the infamous words of a pathological liar - what difference does it make?
Is Bevin another comic book villain??? The press wants to know.
“US senators and congresscritters cannot be recalled. This has been litigated in both federal court (Idaho, 1967) and state court (New Jersey, 2013). However, Mitch can resign if he wants.”
If there were a way to take away the “majority leader’s” role, he’d “self-deport.”
At his age, being a back bencher, would not play well.
Congrats to Matt!
Polls showed him behind the entire race,
until the votes got counted.
Yes!!! From your keyboard to God’s ears.
Obamacare has been fairly successful in the state, but Conway was so considered a crook that the blue dogs wouldn’t even vote for the bastard. His campaign advertisements did not have one positive statement to say about his own record, only accusations against Bevin. This renews my faith in mankind.
Thank God!!!!
Republican senators can depose Mitch anytime they want and replace him.
