LOL. If it did, I would have been dead a long time ago.

Diet Mt. Dew, on the other hand, is very good for you. I highly recommend it!

For me, mostly water, rarely tea, gatta have 2 cups black coffee in the morning, but no sweet drinks, soda, juice, etc. I do eat fruit.”

But what about wine and beer? What about rum and coke? What about whiskey and ginger ale? What about gin and tonic?

How can you live on coffee and water?

"Yep, that’s why I’m dead."

I'm dead too, and having a blast!

LOLOL!! Good giggle! {^)

I used to drink about six a day of diet soda, for probably almost 10 years. Finally stopped drinking them only because the carbonation was upsetting my stomach ... and then started to feel SO so so good, so much better in general, more energy and just peppier, that now I only drink diet soda for special occasions (I can't drink booze ... I'm allergic, I break out in handcuffs). In fact, I now think all fake sugar is BAD FOR THE BODY.

If you're going to eat something sweet, for the love of God make it real: cane sugar, beet sugar, honey. It's starting to dawn on me, looking at the eating ways of elderly people I know who are fit and in excellent health, that a good rule of thumb is this: if it was a food that was around 100 years ago, eat it with confidence if in moderation if need be. If it is a newfangled invention (high fructose corn syrup, margarine, shortening, for example) of a bunch of guys in a lab ... avoid it because your body knows zip about metabolizing it.

Rush, God love him, is the poster boy for how to eat wrong -- he has battled weight for the last three decades. It's always pretty rich when he talks about healthy eating. He knows a lot about diets and what the books say about this and that, fer sher .. .he doesn't know jack about eating smart.

The sweetener in the big brand American soft drinks isn’t sugar, it’s high fructose corn syrup. Huge difference in the taste, and the latter is much more heavily processed. Try one of the soft drinks that still use cane sugar sometime, like Pepsi Throwback. If you’re past a certain age it will remind you of how sodas tasted when you were a child.

Actually there are roughly the same number of calories in a regular coke as in a beer. Depends on how light the beer is.

Here is a trick if you like bubbly drinks but don’t like soda: combine a juice like apple or grape with seltzer water. Or if you want something lighter, mix lemon juice with stevia extract and seltzer. Very low calorie.

Drink it regularly at your own risk -- it's still bad for you, no matter how much Rush would like to paint it as a leftist political plot that it is so.

Like you, my wonderful former father-in-law was diabetic, severely hampered by the disease (Type 1), but he loved my homemade apple pie. He would eat the tiniest sliver and pay a price ... so I figured out a way to make for him sugar-free apple pies that he was able to enjoy in much better health: I used golden delicious apples, the yellowest and sweetest I could find, and a sprinkling of yellow raisins mixed in with the applies instead of sugar. He was able to calculate his way (he paid careful attention to every morsel he ate) to eating that pie in good health for many years. I am so happy that I was able to provide him such a nice simple pleasure; he was a wonderful man.

Truly ... there are no shortcuts; fake sugar is in the long run, bad for the body. In small amounts .. heck, I drink diet soda myself on occasion. But as a daily or weekly deal ...

... you can't fool Mother Nature!

I drink distilled water, coffee, and iced tea, use stevia with tea and coffee. No soda, course we call it pop down here.

I think by my time the switch had already been made but I’ve noticed the crisp taste of real sugar is better.

“You can thank our sugar industry and tariffs for that.”

Bastards.

I’ve pretty much given up soda. It just doesn’t taste as good as it used to...or, at least, as good as I *thought* that it tasted.

There is no such thing as a beer belly so big it justifies drinking Diet Coke.

I used to drink 3 or 4 a day until I had to have my kidney stones surgically removed. Doctor gave me a list of things to avoid and Diet Coke was one of them. Haven’t had one since. Drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day and the rest, lots and lots of water.
