Boarded a flight. A woman with a baby was in my assigned seat. Attendant asked me to pick another seat. I did and got a free drink for not making a fuss.
Moral of the story: Acting White pays.
I was flying a trans-con out of San Francisco a few years ago. A black woman came up to me and loudly announced that I was in her seat and loudly demanded I get up immediately. I figured she mis-read her boarding pass so I waited for a flight attendant to show up. By the time she did the black gal was totally irate and threatening.
I showed my boarding pass to to the FA and she said, “Oh yes, come with me.”The black gal smirked because she figured she got her way. I followed the FA to a wonderful seat in first class. It was one of those fancy seats that made into a flat bed and had a tv screen. Then there was champagne if I wanted it and a very good dinner. It pays to stay calm and polite.
