The Russian airline Kogalymavia has blamed "external influence" for Saturday's Sinai plane crash which killed 224 people.
A senior airline official said: "The only reasonable explanation is that it was [due to] external influence."
An investigation by aviation experts using data from the aircraft's "black boxes" has yet to give its conclusions.
A Kremlin spokesman has warned against speculation as to the possible causes of the crash.

Hmmm...
That hardly settles it, because the airline has a self-interest in blaming it on anyone but themselves.
Based on the amount of distance between take-off and this point....they’d probably reached near 30,000 ft or more. So, a manpad missile won’t be in the final answer. It can only be four possible answers: massive engine failure, another aircraft or drone hitting it, a long-range missile, or a bomb onboard. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a drone.
Doubtful a drone at 30k+ feet.
i think it is strange that ISIS were video recording the plane. Why? unless they knew something was going to happen to it.
or maybe they have some geeky ISIS members who plane watch at 31,000 feet inbetween the beheading videos they release.
i can see they might be watching for jets but filming a plane..seems strange to me at least.
If ISIS has figured out a way to smuggle covert bombs onto an airplane, we’ll start seeing a lot more of these. Then we’ll know.
AQ has been trying for 20 years to come up with binary explosives/incendiaries that can be smuggled aboard a plane. That’s why we can only bring tiny shampoo bottles aboard in our carry-ons. One idea that was tried was to combine two chemicals disguised as shampoo etc while in the bathroom. One jihadist brings on A, the other B, and they are mixed in the rest room, causing a massive fire or explosion.
They might have perfected a technique like that.
Another clue: the plane broke up/exploded soon after reaching cruising altitude. This could indicate a barometric-pressure trigger in a covert bomb inside of checked luggage.
Nope. 30k is easy for quite a few.
Not for manpads.
The best, the latest Stinger missiles, can get to about 26,000, The best Russian does around 22,000 feet.
There are definitely AAW missile systems that can get to 30,000 feet, but not man portable ones.
IMHO, a bomb seems most likely at this point. But the others have to be explored.
im not very familiar with the details of shoulder fired weapons, but would there be a visible trail as it streaked towards the plane? again just an honest question...
I trust your judgement on these matters Jeff.
Do we know for certain what the altitude of the airliner was.
OAN is reporting that it came apart in flight and was not intact when it hit the ground.
Given where the plane’s demise occurred, I’ll be interested to see what the Israelis have to contribute. Surely they had radar or other types of surveillance over that airspace.
The BBC news report mentioned there had been previous tail damage from a bad landing, but the Russians insist the damage had been repaired. If they are wrong, a malfunction in the tail could perhaps have caused the aircraft to dive until the stresses exceeded the design specifications and disintegrated the aircraft with a separation of the tail section.
Sinai Nazi Banderites.
If ISIS made the mistake of pi$$ing of Putin they had better check their collective six’s ‘cause Putin ain’t no Obama liberal pansy.
Broken tail would give pilots a few seconds to communicate emergency
Mount Sinai is 7500 ft...could this equate to a closer to a 23k manpad range?
Interesting. Did the plane fly over Mt. Sinai?

ISIS, nee Al Qaeda in Iraq, used these for anti-aircraft fire in Iraq. They’d line up near a Navigation beacon and fire at approaching aircraft.
