Hollywood Studios Are Self-Censoring Movies To Appease Communist Censors In China, Says US Report
Int'l Business Times ^ | October 30 2015 | Christopher Zara

China’s stringent regulation of American movies isn’t just a matter of cultural differences, but in fact runs afoul of China’s commitments to the World Trade Organization, which in 2007 ordered the country to open its doors to cinematic imports. China failed to comply with the WTO directive for several years, the researchers write, but in 2012 made a deal with the United States to raise the cap on film imports from 20 to 34 films a year -- a move heralded by the Obama administration as a breakthrough.

But more films didn’t lead to WTO compliance. “The ruling called for China to provide equal rights for all individuals and enterprises, both foreign and domestic, importing entertainment products to China on an unlimited basis,” the researchers wrote.

Leni edited Hitler out because the Nazis figured the film might get AirPlay in America easier.

I wish China were offended by liberal drool; Gd forbid Hollywood ever tries to please the 60% of Americans who are sick of it in our films. We might actually go to the movies.

The dreaded invader in the re-make of Red Dawn 3 years ago was SUPPOSED to be CHINA.

Instead they changed it after doing 1/3 of the movie to North Korea.

Go$h, I WONDER WHY.

the linked staff report from the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission is well worth reading.

My favorite quotes from the staff report:

"...Vice President Joe Biden stated that, as a result of the deal, the U.S. "share of box office revenues doubled."11 Still, the 2012 deal was merely an incremental step for tapping into the Chinese market and increasing film revenues.12 Piracy issues continue to inhibit sales of U.S. films in China and limit other sources of income derived from films, and China's government continues to maintain significant trade barriers for its film market. According to a 2014 report on China's WTO compliance from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, two years after the deal was finalized “concrete steps [had] not yet been taken" to further open the Chinese film market.13...

Trump would have a field day with this.

The studios will cater to where the money is. There is nothing new under the son.

My wife and I frequently watch movies as part of our bi-monthly date nights. We’ve noticed for quite some time that Hollywood frequently panders to China. Case in point is Matt Damon’s “The Martian.”

I just thought it was silly that only China had a rocket to save the astronaut and they were gracious enough to let NASA use it.

No SpaceX, no Orbital Science, no Boeing, no Russia, no Arianne. Nope, China once again comes to the rescue!

The producers as "Citizens of the World" not Americans. The time will come that the Produrcers must lean that America is the only place they work with freedoms.

You're right on this Forward...
