Uh I think it got extended for a 100 weeks or more. Further I have been told by workers for years that people they know avoid work to stay on unemployment. I know personally of deadbeats who turn down work because the unemployment checks are coming.

As for the requirement that you look for work? You go to a dozen places that you aren’t qualified for or are not hiring. You check off your list.

You have to report that you turned down work which effects your eligibility. That people game the system is an issue.

Another trick is to start a job, get themself fired, and then point to that as proof that they’re unemployable.

I’ve been a QA at a couple of places, and I’ve seen people pull this stunt. Many will even tell you to your face that that’s what they’re doing.

Decent employers don’t like firing people. It costs money to train someone and get them set up, that’s an investment that companies don’t like to see going to waste. As a result, I have watched people go to ridiculous measures trying to get themself fired in a way that won’t hurt their benefits application.
