Hundreds of immigrant families caught illegally crossing the Mexican border told U.S. immigration agents they made the dangerous journey in part because they believed they would be permitted to stay in the United States and collect public benefits, according to internal intelligence files from the Homeland Security Department.
The interviews with immigrants by federal agents were intended to help the Obama administration understand what might be driving a puzzling surge in the numbers of border crossings that started over the summer. The explanations suggest the U.S. government's efforts to discourage illegal crossings may have been unsuccessful. Its efforts have included public service campaigns in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala to highlight the dangers and consequences of making the trek across Mexico to cross illegally into the United States.

All they need to do is have a baby on US soil. Once that anchor baby is born, medicaid, food stamps and housing kick in along with a raft of other goodies.

By the way, they come to collect benefits, not to work.

Tell the immigrants at the border to pay back-taxes for all the schools, hospitals, national defense, infrastructure, social security, etc., that citizens have been paying to build for generations and then we’ll listen. Otherwise, take their illegal azzes out of here.
It mentions government advertising in Guatemala of the perils of the trek but doesn’t say anything about the government advertising throughout Mexico, at least,of the welfare benefits available to those who make it across.

Other than Trumps’ stand against this sort of thing and to some degree Ted Cruz; what would make them think otherwise?

First thing Donald Trump needs to do is create massive signs along the border stating that babies born inside the USA are NOT automatic citizens, that there is rewards, big rewards to turn in illegals,drugrunners will NOT go to prison but will be executed within 24 hours, and the border will be guarded by armed robots, not humans.
