"What, if anything, is stopping the top 4-5 candidates from bypassing the RNC process and simply scheduling their own debate, in a venue of their own choice, with moderators of their mutual choosing?

How would they get it on TV??

Easy, sell it to the cable networks or highest bidder. Put on the internet. Just break the debate strangle hold the MSM has.

How would they get it on TV??

I think they could get A+E Networks to carry it on either A&E or History (or both); Trump and the superPACs could chip in and pay for the time if necessary, which each candidate's ads getting shown during the timeouts.
