There are a lot of Truck Camper ideas in that.

Or maybe they’re nothing more than silly people... attempting to ‘out green’ each other.

I’m sure the 1800’s money rate was a bit different from today.

Yep, money back then didn’t pay for “JACK”

Yep. IIRC, gold was $20/ounce. Even at a 60X increase in the price of gold, that turns around at a whopping $500 for a “tiny house”.

Considering a bare Conestoga wagon cost around $250, the added amenities, steel undercarriage, and etc, might make it worthy of that cost.

Not that I am disagreeing exactly, as 30k is way too much... Just sayin'.

A typical post from a typical bottomfeeder.

Cheers!

I do respect the fact that the founding generations, the "pioneers", those who trekked the vast expanse did so without any of the "necessities" we take for granted.

Being that the Conestoga wagon originated here, and after seeing many surviving examples of same, I am awed that they endured so much in such spartan conditions. I still doubt they'd be disappointed with a mere 160 sq. ft. "shack".

Perhaps true. These were people often best measured by their deeds, not their size. Six-footers were rare, and many were only about 5'5". When you go from a men's medium to a 2XLT, space matters.

Still, for the money, here's a link to an account of property values from Ohio in the 1820s, with some land values given. (Remember, the homesteaders who went west were getting 160 acres for their troubles, too, if they made a 'go' of it.)

Same here, living room/dining room, kitchen on first floor and tiny. 3 tiny bedrooms and a bathroom on second floor. We were one of the few houses that didn’t have a dirt or coal basement (we called it a cellar) since our’s was “finished” with a floor and wood walls. We had a washer and my Mom hung our clothes to dry in the back section of the basement during winter and out in the tiny cement “yard” during other seasons. Yes, it was home and I had a wonderful childhood but I’m glad I didn’t have to raise my kids there.

So you are comparing this to how “Laura Ingalls” lived and saying it compares to life today. Got it.

And some families live less extravagantly than the norm but not quite like “Laura Ingalls” and you have a problem with that. “If it wasn’t abusive to Laura...”

Sorry but I’m not living in Laura Ingalls time. I also don’t romanticize life in that time period just like I don’t romanticize poverty.

Bummer. It’s why I think tiny communities can work, but not tiny isolationists.

I think it’s adorable. When Mr. Mercat and I were shopping for a house after we had our first child we found a house like this. The next day we called with an offer but it had already sold. Right now he and I travel all over the country is a 22 foot RV smaller than this. It is a bit crowded for more than two but we could make it work with a baby.

i am blown away by all these negative comments! seriously???? americans have become soooo completely relaxed in their 2,000 sq ft luxury homes with three cars and two hot tubs that they dont even know what life was like a mere 50/75 years ago. my mother grew up in an apartment in Brooklyn likely about 500 sq feet with FIVE kids, my grandmother had FIVE kids and my grandfather worked his ass off. and that s how people lived. this house is very hygienic and beautiful and well suited for one child or two or three!!!!! how dare any of you judge!! people cannot afford this luxury lifestyle any longer!!!!!! the economy is such that affording food and a car and gasoline and the huge house and student loans is just too much! instead of two people having to work three to four jobs, they are finding alternatives to spend MORE TIME WITH THEIR CHILDREN!!!! the child abuse might be when the child sees their parents for less than one hour a day because they work so much to remain in their giant houses!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I’m going to live in that small of space, I’d rather get a nice RV and travel all over the place.
