Donald Trump May Need New Playbook Against Surging Ben Carson
NBC News ^ | 10/27/15 | Lee Ann Caldwell

As polls show Ben Carson catching - and even surpassing - Donald Trump, the brash businessman's attacks against his closest challenger have intensified. His remarks could backfire for being redundant, vague and hypocritical.

While Trump has been known for direct and personal verbal lobs against his opponents in the campaign, this is the first time he has found himself faced with another outsider who has risen above him in some recent key polls. And his strategy so far has yet to have any impact on Carson as the former pediatric neurosurgeon has refused to take the bait.

On MSNBC's Morning Joe Tuesday, Trump was quick to question Carson's appeal, insisting that under scrutiny, it won't continue. A "a lot of things will come out" about Carson's record, Trump said.

Trump challenged Carson's strict anti-abortion position, which Trump said wasn't always the same.

"Ben was pro-abortion not so long ago as everybody has told me," Trump said.

Trump was most likely referring to Carson's tenure as a pediatric neurosurgeon when he referred pregnant patients with genetic abnormalities to doctors who also perform abortions - a decision Carson defends pointing to the importance of "qualified medical supervision."

But the problem with Trump's statement is that his own record is not very consistent. In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" in 1999, Trump said that while he "hates" the idea of abortion he is "very pro-choice."

well, it is not hard to believe you went from one loser to another.

I still will vote for Cruz in the primaries. I would vote for Trump if he were the nominee, but there is not another person in the race that I will vote for and that includes Carson.

I voted for Romney last time and had to ask God’s forgiveness. I will not vote for another member of any cult.

Yeah, that’s true. But you’re talking in generalities. It’s clear trump is a crony capitalist, and he would prefer to rule us with other crony capitalists. But I’m looking at the individual crony capitalists that he’s naming. Some are worse than others (but all are bad) and Buffet is about worst of all.

I will vote for Cruz in the primaries, and I hope in the general. I would consider Carson in the general, but not trump. But I have no expectation that Carson will win the nomination. Too many liars like you.

Just give people time to figure Carson out.

He was climbing my list until the last debate and he said that he would not have gone in Afghanistan and he apparently doesn’t have a problem with minimum wage (aka, commie wages).

I am sure more surprise await.

Strange and Curious Sects: The MilleritesThe Millerite movement began splintering into sects as the debate raged, and soon had all but run out of steam. Miller himself died in 1849, insisting to the end that the Second Coming was imminent.

Following such a catastrophic failure, one might expect that the Millerite movement would fade away entirely. But that is not what happened. Although the fragmented Millerites languished for some time, and though many did abandon the movement, several of the competing splinter groups would ultimately gain new life. Hiram Edson’s sect, the one which claimed Jesus’ return was heavenly rather than earthly, developed into a denomination that still exists – the Seventh-Day Adventists, who today number as many as 15 million members worldwide.

Dr Carson knows well how to sedate, physically and mentally. A sedated populace is a controllable populace. I believe and sincerely hope the populace is awaking from their years long ‘controlled’ slumber and will not continue accepting ‘sedation’.

And abject, mortally sinful, hateful lies about others are not effective with me.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Thankfully, many others are doing some research and their eyes are being opened.

Any Republican nominee will win the bulk of the south. There are always people, such as your family, that refuse to vote for one of the 2 major party candidates.

What is amusing here is that Trumpsters were so sure they had it locked up, that the polls wouldn’t fluctuate, that other candidates might move into and later out of the lead, etc.

There is a long way to go yet.

Not difficult to understand his reluctance to go to war when one understands that his faith teaches Pacifism. He could not be an effective Commander in Chief.
