Carson said he “tried to kill someone at 14”?
Really???
I remember hearing him talk about it. He went after a kid with a butcher knife. It was one of the events that changed his life.
It's in one or more of his autobiographies, maybe The Big Picture. He has also discussed it at media interviews. He said the moment he realized he could have killed someone was what made him reevaluate his life and start on the productive path. He tried to stab a bully, but the kid's belt buckle deflected the knife. He ran home and hid in the bathroom to calm down. His mother had Bibles all over the house, and one was in the bathroom. He opened it to the Book of Proverbs (the book of wisdom) and began reading. It changed his life. He has said since then he reads from Proverbs first thing every morning.
To Christians, this is a story of redemption and conversion, the moment when a youthful sinner renounces sin and changes his life for the better for all the decades henceforth. To progressives, this is a fatal flaw and political disqualifier that cannot be understood and can never be forgiven, ever.
