This AM I got a warning similar to: “GWXUX has stopped working”. I researched it and found it was a notification Microsoft automatically installed to collect data and see of my machine is W10 capable. This is apparently installed with auto update KB3035583.

I found instructions to disable this feature.

“KB3035583 adds two tasks in Task Scheduler to cause the gwx notification icon to appear in the notification area.

Go to “Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Task Scheduler”.

In Task Scheduler go to “Task Scheduler Library/Microsoft/Windows/Setup/gwx”. Disable the two tasks listed under gwx (right-click/left-click “Disable”).

The gwx icon will not appear next time you start Windows.”

I find this scary.

I’m perfectly happy with my W7 64 bit machine that’s less than a year old. It does everything I want, no problems, quite fast, it’s never crashed, never lost data and it’s very user friendly once customized to work like XP.

I can think of no reason for going to W10. None! I don’t care what the Windows junkies say about “old” systems.

“Disable the two tasks listed under gwx (right-click/left-click “Disable”).”

All fine until I got here. I see three subwindows, so I arbitrarily disabled launchtrayprocess and refreshgwxconfigandcontent. Correct?
