It is a matter of personal choice for individuals, but the Church as a whole advocated for service, just not a combatant role.

Some people serve as medics.

Ohters serve as drug test subjects at Walter Reed.

Others can serve in other ways, a mechanic or some other useful service that is needed.

The church does think the nation should be supported in some way during times of conflict.

Personally, I think a combatant role is reasoned. We see all sorts of Biblical references to the righteous prevailing in battle.

Why can’t there be righteous prevailing in battle now?

I respect very highly medics who provide medical services in the field of battle. All the men rely on them, and it’s about as honorable a job as there is, particularly when under fire.

That is what I read. Based on that I do have an issue with an SDA being CINC.I have no issues with Carson being a fine man.

I was raised an SDA. I understand their teachings and that some churches remain more true to them than others. Midwestern churches are much more dogmatic.

In the metropolitan areas, the churches have become more secularized.

I do not attend church. My role is to explain what the church teaches, and what the rank and file believe and do with those teachings.

I am about as big a hawk on military matters as you would ever hope to see.

I know what evil can accomplish if you don’t stand up to it.

We need a military second to none, and a CIC that knows when it is appropriate to use it.

I can’t tell you what Carson’s vision of the military is. He may be hampered by his religious teachings, and he may in fact think Biblical prophecy predestins us to conflict with Russia at some point.

Each individual, be they an SDA or the follower of any other church, has to come to terms with using the military in times of crisis.

Carson could be of more sound mind on these matters than many of the others. Then again, he may not be. That’s something very hard to assess.

You’ll have ot work that out on your own.
