BUT...do those elites know how to use a weapon effectively?
I have met and spent significant time with quite a few of the elite (meaning wealth of $100M plus). I see them as three groups: (A) those who inherited wealth, (B) those who earned wealth by producing something of value, and (C) those who obtained wealth through crony capitalism.
Groups A and C are not worthy of comment. Most fit a couple of profiles, and they are not too far from what you would guess, except that the wealthy children of involved parents often turn out to be very good at a lot of things.
Group B is for the most part impressive - people who are good at life and great at one area that made them a fortune. These are people who drive a Ford F-150 instead of a Rolls because they would feel bad about tossing a fresh-caught bass in something as unnecessarily elegant as the British car. These are people who go duck hunting and never miss, then cook a couple of ducks and freeze the rest - great cooks. These are people who replace the flush valves in eight of the sixteen toilets in their homes, and do it themselves, because it takes less time than waiting on a plumber. These are people who go to the range and whether it's pistol or rifle put every shot in the black - some a mixture of 10s and Xs, others a little more variable, but almost always good to great shots. These are all examples from direct observation of different wealthy people I have seen in the past two years. I'm guessing that Group B isn't buying a getaway; they have friends and neighbors who would help them to the extent that they needed the help.
