It’s tough to set rules and take action based upon inconsistent and non-existent immigration law.
I have all the empathy in the world for someone that’s been here 19 of their 20 years of life and has never known Mexico, El Salvador, Romania or Poland. Yes, there are illegal children here from countries not south of the border.
I’m no fan of amnesty but any throw them all out law and action is going to result in a million sob stories.
After the great influx of immigration through Ellis Island we shut off the spigot for many, many years to assimilate those that had come here by the millions. Even then, I’m sure many miraculously “found” legal status after years. After all, it was a paper based immigration system.
The best thing to do is secure first, cut off the quotas and let this situation settle out for two generations.
As far as deportation? You’re single? You have no family here? You’re sending all your earnings out of the country? Buh bye. Work your way back from the felons to the leeches and then address hardship cases as need be.
