that’s putting it mildly, my friend. the biggest pro-GOP voting block is old people. how will they react when HRC pulls out this quote?

what’s health insurance for an old person cost? gotta be at least $20,000 per annum. carson wants to give grandma a $2,000 and a pat on the back?

So all “old people” become socialist once they retire?

Nobody knows what a premium would cost because nobody has every had to calculate it; Medicare automatically kicked in at 65. So if you're talking about a person with Alzheimer's or someone with congestive heart disease then I imagine your $20,000 annual premium estimate wouldn't come close to covering it.

Actually its 2000 a year from the day you are born, so a 65 year old retiree would have 130k plus interest. Which would be a good nest egg for health costs... but the problem is this model does not socialize the risk, like insurance does.

Health Care costs increased 1991-2009 between 5-7% a year depending on where you lived, on average, so lets split the difference and say that 2000 a year, actually is left alone by the government and makes a reasonable 6% return over that time.. that leaves you with 1.5 Million for your health care... not bad, for day to day health care, but 1 tramatic event can whipe that out... so you retire at 65 and at 67 you have a major event, brain cancer, and you wind up racking up over a million dollars in health care costs.... but you survive.. you are now 70, you have 15 more years to live on average and you have 300k to make it.. won’t happen.

The model doesn’t work... because you aren’t socializing the risk. Someone else, dies instantly in a car wreck at 70, most of his 1.5 Million is left, but if it was his, it goes to his heirs, not back into the pool to help cover the guy listed above....

I agree in principal if you set it up as a POOL contribiting a few k per year for all people and you make reasonable return on the money AND you keep the government from raiding it, this model would work, as that’s effectively what insurance is today... but I don’t think that is what he’s suggesting he’s suggesting the money is yours.. and in that model it just doesn’t work. You will have folks unable to get care because they can’t afford it.

Carson has not got a clue of what its like not to be well off. Especially when you are retired. $2,000 per year in govt assistance is like $2.00

My mother could no more pay $20,000 per year for insurance than the man in the moon. She would be bankrupted in a year. And so would millions of other people’s parents.

Ben Carson is a nice man and I’m sure a fine doctor. He is totally unprepared to be the President of the United States. And he won’t be.

The liberaltarians want to cut granny off from social security and medicare. No matter that it is the only government benefit that was actually paid for your the “insured.”

In the mean time you have millions of able bodied young people on welfare and the Department of reEducation dumbing down and morally twisting the coming generation with gusto. Our country is evil.
