For months, Scandinavian countries have accused Russian military planes and ships of slipping into their waters without permission. Its made many Nordic governments wary of the Kremlins intentions in the Baltic Sea and the Arctic Ocean.
Russias assertive behavior is driving Sweden and Finland two countries that have never been part of NATO closer to the alliance. At present, Norway, Denmark and Iceland make up NATOs Nordic members.
According to Anna Wieslander at the Atlantic Council:
Denmark has played a key role, with some support from the United Kingdom, putting Baltic Sea security and the perspective of relevant partners on NATOs agenda. This may seem surprising given the fact that Denmark has traditionally not been among the prime movers in Nordic military cooperation. However the situation in Crimea and eastern Ukraine has caused Denmark to feel the need to connect Sweden and Finland more closely with NATO so as to reinforce security in the region, according to Danish foreign minister Martin Lidegaard.

Time has come for the US to inch away from NATO.
The infiltration of ISIS into Europe should tip the balance, and provide Brussels with its own prefabricated Basij.
For Sweden the answer may be simpler. As they become muslim they may want to join the rest of the caliphate now forming in Europe.
For it's size, Sweden has a potent military, but I'm afraid that, given it's geography and history, Finland would be nothing more than a tripwire to war.
The Finland of the 40’s would be most welcome! M-39’s for every body!
Sweden should demand the return of their land stolen by Peter the Great.
Stalin invaded Finland with million men and gained barely enough land to bury his dead.
And Ukrainians even had a volunteer unit
helping Finland back then. Ed
Winter War is one of the prime examples of underdog doing the impossible. I have read histories where they say Finnish leadership was already almost ready to surrender to the overwhelming Russian force and then Stalin jumped the gun, got trigger-happy and invaded and lost to a small country in the most embarrassing way possible.
