The 5 million that do nothing but act as loving pets for their whole life do not matter.
Because kanawa has a valid point is one of the reasons I am opposed to breed banning. Kanawa is right that most of the time, in the hands of owners who respect the breed (even though they may not think of it that way), they're loving pets and that's putting it mildly; these dogs can successfully defend to the death their masters against big opposition, whereas a Chihuahua will have the heart to do the same, but ... end up a snack.
Banning breeds is a bad way to go because it would be a slippery slope. There must be other ways to handle the problem. Making ownership of the breed illegal is a lousy way. The right to discriminate against owners based on types or breed of dog is a good way to handle it.
