CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Police now say a 19-year-old man was shot to death while trying to rob a woman Sunday evening.

According to Detective D.M Boykin, police responded to 1968 Bruin Place around 5:47 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing a man, identified Monday as 19-year-old Traymon Richardson, running in front of Western Branch High School.

“There was cop cars everywhere, there was people out and about wondering what was going on in the neighborhood,” said Jennifer Kloster. She has lived in the neighborhood near Western Branch High School for twelve years.

She said the commotion, and no immediate arrests, had neighbors wondering if they were in any danger.

“The concern of the neighborhood is ‘why does this happen, how is this happening, what do we do to prevent this from happening’. So it’s just a case of something went really wrong,” Kloster said.

Monday, police revealed that Richardson was reportedly armed with a handgun and was attempting to rob a 20-year-old woman, when there was a struggle over the weapon and Richardson was shot. Police are declining to say who pulled the trigger. There was another man with Richardson at the time of the incident, but police have not identified that individual.

Chesapeake Police said the woman and Richardson did not know each other.

Police have not filed any charges in his death.

As a result of the new information, police have reclassified the case from a homicide to a shooting investigation, according to MPO Kelly O’Sullivan.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Chesapeake Police Department or the Chesapeake Crime Line.

According to Kellie Gorral, spokeswoman for Chesapeake Public Schools, the altercation began in the school parking lot, but she says it is not believed the victim was a student at Western Branch High School.

Since they have identified the decedent, I believe they mean the woman who he tried to rob.

I miss the good old days when the media wrote English.

Despite their best efforts to prevent screen grabs, I still managed to get a picture of the decedent Son Of Barry.

By looks of house she may be elderly, house in state of disrepair. Dude may have been homeless looking for what he could steal. He is released from his earthly bonds which ever way that works for him. She gets to think of him for a long time. And the government institutions that caused this lapse in livability for her and hundreds of others(elderly homeowners) in this city, it’s kind of like Potterstown in the Jimmy Stewart movie, only worse.

Thank you for the pic.

Out of curiosity, how were you able to perform that magic? I haven't quite figured that out. I hate Adobe Flash videos.

In Windows, if you can pause on the image, push the prt sc (print screen), then open Paint and select edit paste. It will get the whole image at whatever size, so typically you full screen the video first. Then, in Paint, you select the image you want and crop out everything else.

Thank you. It looks like I can do something similar using Quicktime on a Mac.
